Summary
Council approved infrastructure upgrades to the amphitheater's AV connectivity (funded by River District Fund), a $50,000 maintenance contract with Redpoint Audio Video for city audiovisual systems, and a consolidation plan for municipal cable accounts estimated to save $40,000 annually.
The committee approved a package of audio/visual items that staff said are necessary to support touring productions and to reduce recurring costs across city facilities.
Doctor Day said the amphitheater still uses coaxial cabling installed at opening and presented an infrastructure upgrade to modernize connections between the mix position, stage, and control room. He said that while the city does not provide lighting or AV to performers, it provides the connections they use and that upgrades are needed to meet modern touring technical demands; the work is budgeted from the River District Fund.
Separately, Jason presented a three-year maintenance contract with Redpoint Audio Video covering seven city locations at $50,000 and a plan to consolidate municipal cable accounts into a single contract that staff estimate will save roughly $40,000 per year (a $5,000 installation cost and $889.09 monthly thereafter were cited). Council approved the maintenance contract, the amphitheater infrastructure project, and the cable-account consolidation by voice votes.
Staff said the amphitheater video walls were replaced last year and this phase focuses on the connectivity and backend equipment to support shows going forward.
