The Tuscaloosa City Public Projects committee approved a right-of-way use permit for a partial encroachment tied to the 14th Street townhomes project.
Mr. Gardner, the presenter for the project, said the permit covers side stairs that project into the public right-of-way at the terminus where 14th Street meets the ramp off 15th Street. He said the permit "is just to establish ownership and maintenance of those stairs." Engineering staff recommended approval.
Councilors voted on a motion to approve the permit; the chair called the voice vote and the item was approved.
The permit applies only to the narrow encroachment described by staff; the project team said existing houses on the site were demolished and the developer is ready to begin construction. The council did not attach additional conditions in the recorded discussion.
