Tyler Messer, code compliance, delivered the commission’s January update Feb. 13, reporting 133 service requests, 501 completed inspections and 105 notices of violation. The department issued 52 citations totaling $43,100 and is pursuing demolition for two long-standing nuisance properties; one property will go to hearing next month with abatement and demolition as possible next steps.
Messer said staff closed a year-long illegal-construction case after educating a property owner on required permits and working through building and engineering inspections to bring the property into compliance. Abatement staff also closed two inoperable-vehicle cases after property owners removed wrecked and dismantled vehicles without requiring a warrant.
Animal control was not present; staff said the animal-control officer provided a written report and will answer questions at the next meeting.
