Marissa Russo, the city’s marketing and communications manager, introduced the Sterling Heights Youth Advisory Board and its members, who described projects and priorities including community engagement, an Operation Warmth clothing drive, movie nights and increased civic outreach. Youth members said the board — made up of appointed residents ages 14–17 — focuses on sustainability, mental health, diversity and local government awareness and is recruiting applicants for the coming year.
The council also presented a Nice Neighbor Award to Silvana Delicata in recognition of long‑standing neighborhood service; speakers described her volunteer work and the council approved a short resolution honoring her.
Separately, Angelina Taylor, executive director of Helping Us Stay Safe, spoke about survivor support during a proclamation recognizing April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Council adopted a resolution designating April annually as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and pledged support for local programs; Taylor urged continued outreach and listed an upcoming Denim Day event on April 29.
Council members encouraged residents to contact city staff for information about youth programs and survivor resources; staff said event information and volunteer applications will be posted on the city website.
