The Adelanto City Council celebrated the public service of Councilwoman Joy Janette at its Dec. 11 meeting with certificates, a reading of a congressional tribute and an item from a county supervisor.
Council members and staff praised Janette's years of service as a planning commissioner (2015-2018) and council member (2018-2024). A staff member read a submission to the Congressional Record recognizing Janette's service, and the council presented additional resolutions honoring her contributions. Janette and family members recounted personal memories, including the search for a POW/MIA brother, which prompted an emotional response from the dais and audience.
The council took photos and briefly paused regular business to present the awards before opening the public hearing on CDBG allocations later in the meeting.
The recognition clause and the congressional remarks will be retained in the meeting record; Janette's retirement was highlighted repeatedly by colleagues as a milestone for the city.
