Beaumont Unified board approves Eureka Math, grants, personnel assignments and two staff appointments

At its Jan. 21 meeting, the Beaumont Unified School District board approved a set of curriculum, grant and personnel items, confirmed two administrative appointments and approved a construction management contract.
Curriculum and safety: Trustees opened and closed a public hearing and approved adoption of Eureka Math (Grades 6–8) from Great Minds PBC as the district’s instructional materials for those grades. The board also approved the 2023–24 School Accountability Report Cards (SARCs) and the 2024–25 comprehensive school safety plans; trustees thanked principals and site staff for compiling the reports and completing safety-plan requirements.
Grants: The board accepted a California Department of Education Golden State Pathways planning grant (GAN) of $121,400 for fiscal years 2024–26 and an After School Education and Safety grant of $399,215.59 for 2024–25. Trustees expressed appreciation for the departments that secured those awards.
Personnel and appointments: The board approved variable-term waiver requests for two teachers and adopted certificated, classified and administrative personnel assignment orders dated Jan. 2025 and Jan. 21, 2025 (motions carried; several personnel votes recorded with one abstention). Administration announced the appointment of Alicia Peele as human resources coordinator (previously a credential analyst with Moreno Valley Unified) and Linden Nichols as technology support analyst (a longtime district employee). Both appointees addressed the board and were welcomed by trustees.
Contracts and other business: The board approved NEF Construction Inc. for construction management services related to educational-support facilities portables and approved a Form J-13A request allowing attendance credit for emergency conditions. The board also received reports from employee groups (CSEA chapter 351, Beaumont Teachers Association and the administrators’ group) on bargaining, member support programs and school events.
The meeting record shows motions and seconds for each approval (examples: Eureka Math adoption moved by David and seconded by Susie), and the items were approved by voice vote; some personnel approvals recorded one abstention.
