Libertyville SD 70 students honored; SSLAC members urge review of PE uniform policy

The Libertyville Elementary School District No. 70 Board of Education recognized Highland Middle School students involved in the Green Team and members of the Highland Family Association for supporting a courtyard renovation and donating outdoor furniture.
Superintendent Rebecca Jenkins introduced SSLAC student board members Jackson M. and Molly T., who described their goals as members of the Student Leadership Advisory Council. Jackson said he joined SSLAC to help improve the school, including field and hallway cleanups, and to learn more about school-board responsibilities after attending the joint annual conference. Molly, an eighth-grader, said she enjoys a leadership role and plans to investigate whether physical education uniforms are necessary, reporting that many students would prefer wearing everyday clothes in PE.
The Board recessed for a short meet-and-greet with the Green Team and HFA parents and resumed the regular meeting. The presentation highlighted student-led engagement in school facilities and policy questions that the council plans to explore further with district administrators.
The student presentations were part of Superintendent Jenkins' broader report highlighting district grants, awards and recent school activities.
