Hampton Township planning staff told the council the SALDO/zoning-ordinance public hearing will be continued at the April 22 meeting and that, if appropriate, the council may consider adoption afterward. Staff emphasized outreach efforts already completed, including magazine articles to every household, park events and publicized meetings, and said paper copies of the proposed ordinance are available in the planning office for residents without internet access.
Council members raised concerns residents have about changes to setbacks and sidewalk placement along the Route 8 corridor. Planning staff clarified that the ordinance’s legal language on setbacks and the edge-of-road distinction had been a source of confusion and pledged to address questions at the continued public hearing. Staff also said the consultant provided a timeline slide and earlier outreach had been run in local publications.
No final vote on the ordinance occurred tonight. Staff recommended proceeding to adoption after the public hearing in two weeks, but noted the council retains the option to table the matter further if additional public comment or deliberation is needed.
