Interview committee reappoints Reynard Cross to Historic Preservation Commission, invites two applicants for interviews

The interview committee voted to appoint Reynard Cross to the Historic Preservation Commission liaison seat and approved invitations for two applicants to interview for open Historic Preservation Commission seats.

Council member Sydney Zulu said she had reached out to former mayoral appointee Reynard Cross and that he expressed interest in continuing as the council liaison. “I will make another motion to appoint Reynard Cross to seat C1, the Historic Preservation Commission,” Zulu said. A committee member seconded the motion and the appointment passed by voice vote.

Members also discussed two new applicants: Cassie Shelton, whose city residency was confirmed during the meeting, and James Hutchison, an applicant whose packet indicated he is a renter in a likely historic district. Zulu moved to invite both Shelton and Hutchison to interview; the committee seconded and approved the motion by voice vote to hold interviews.

Committee members noted there are currently vacant council liaison slots on the Historic Preservation Commission and that retaining experienced members helps maintain institutional knowledge. The committee asked staff to coordinate interviews and reach out to applicants ahead of the next deliberation session.

The committee’s actions were procedural appointments and interview scheduling; final appointments beyond the liaison seat will proceed through the council’s regular confirmation process.
