Poweshiek County board asks state to reclassify local road, approves routine permits and liquor license renewals

The Poweshiek County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution on April 2 asking the Farm to Market Review Board to modify the county's farm-to-market system, adding 1.2 miles and deleting 0.2 miles along E 156th Street S near the Poweshiek–Jasper county line.

The change, adopted as Resolution #2026-39, was presented by County Engineer Lyle Brehm and approved 3-0. The resolution cites Iowa Code Section 306.6 as the statutory route for seeking reclassification and says Jasper County requested reclassification because a bridge closure affects continuity at the county line.

Brehm also briefed the board on local road projects. He said the Ewart Road (F46) job is "expected to start next week, April 6," and that the road will be officially closed while maintaining local access. Work on the bridge south of Deep River on 520th Avenue is underway; Brehm reported piles are being driven on the west abutment while concrete has been placed on the east abutment. The board learned the 16th Avenue Grinnell project will be put out for bids on April 21 and that shoulder rock has been placed on V18 and V16. Brehm said shrub trees on the north property line of the road shop in Grinnell are slated for removal.

In administrative business the board approved the meeting agenda, approved the March 30 minutes, renewed the liquor license for Buoy’s Inc., and approved Utility Permit #26-23U for MidAmerican Energy Company covering work in Section 19 of Deep River Township and Sections 22, 23, 25 and 26 of Jackson Township. Each routine motion carried 3-0.

The board signed the resolution and the county auditor attested to the action. Next steps for the farm-to-market modification require filing the application with the Farm to Market Review Board for consideration under state law.
