Gerlach CAB names Russell Byerly to Washoe Art Trail community advisory group

Gabrielle Enfield, who is coordinating Washoe County’s Washoe Art Trail/Gateway Park work, asked the Gerlach Citizens Advisory Board on the record to identify local participants for a community advisory committee that will advise the county and the Gerlach GID on art selection, park maintenance and park management. Enfield said she has heard back from several organizations and proposed representatives that include a Gerlach GID trustee (Kat McNamara), a representative from Burning Man, and Dave Cooper for Friends of Black Rock High Rock.

Enfield said the committee’s role is to recommend an art selection process, advise on maintenance needs and propose community‑focused park management practices. “This committee will tell me, ‘okay, that’s yes, but we need this’,” Enfield said, adding she would provide a framework that the group could refine.

After discussion, the board moved to nominate and appoint a CAB representative to the committee. A motion was made and seconded to appoint a CAB member; the board voted in favor and the chair announced Russell Byerly would serve as the Gerlach CAB representative to the Washoe Art Trail community advisory group.

Board members and Enfield emphasized the committee is intended to reflect local community stakeholders rather than county staff, and the county will take the committee’s recommendations to the Gerlach GID, which retains final authority over restrictions or uses on GID‑owned property.

The county project lead asked CAB members to suggest additional community contacts (for example, senior groups and volunteer organizations) to broaden representation. Enfield thanked the board for the appointment and said she will follow up on membership and meeting logistics.

The appointment followed a routine roll call and a public‑meeting process; the board did not take additional legislative action on the project during the session.
