Tecumseh council approves $19,516 pool bathhouse flooring, adopts summer rec wages and pricing

The Tecumseh City Council on Feb. 2 unanimously approved a $19,516 quote from Midwest Concrete Coatings to resurface the pool bathhouse floor and adopted the Parks & Recreation Board’s recommendations for summer recreation wages and pool pricing.
Mayor Jesse Grof presided over the meeting, which opened at 5:01 p.m. and lasted roughly 13 minutes. Council Member Tyler Speckmann moved to approve the Midwest Concrete Coatings quote; Council Member Travis Goracke seconded. The motion carried with all six council members recorded as voting aye: Lance Beethe, Brian Britt, Alicia Brommer, Travis Goracke, Tyler Speckmann and Lorie Topp.
Council Member Speckmann also moved to adopt the Parks & Rec Board’s recommendations on summer recreation and pool wages and pricing. Council Member Lorie Topp seconded; that motion likewise passed unanimously. The minutes record that parks staff are advertising for pool positions and arranging lifeguard training and recertifications.
The council then approved the consent agenda, a motion made by Council Member Lorie Topp and seconded by Council Member Alicia Brommer. The consent agenda included approval of the Jan. 20, 2026 minutes and payment of city bills totaling $63,783.22, which the minutes itemize by vendor (for example, AKRS Equipment, Aspen Builders, Black Hills Energy, Moran Plumbing & Heating and others). Payroll for the period was listed as $14,937.13.
During routine reports, Sheriff Lyon provided the sheriff’s report. Doug Goracke gave updates on economic development and utilities: he said Turnbull Tire has begun construction on a new facility and that Niocorp construction is expected to begin in February or March 2026. Goracke also reported completion of a CDBG DTR improvement project webinar and said utility staff are preparing programming changes for new cooling at the plant and exploring water options related to Niocorp. Parks staff said they are advertising pool positions and arranging lifeguard training.
The council adjourned at 5:14 p.m.; the minutes were recorded by City Clerk Janelle Moran and bear the signature of Mayor Jesse Grof.
