Selectmen table 51-unit PL Associates tax-incentive application amid transparency concerns

Staff presented preliminary estimates: the applicant listed improvements valued at $10–$12 million; town staff provided a rough estimated assessed value in the $6–6.5 million range and estimated annual taxes at roughly $165,000 at current mill rates, noting those were initial figures. Several selectmen said the matter is premature because the project has not yet gone through the town’s economic-development committee and because the town does not have an existing incentive policy specifically for apartments. One selectman raised concerns about optics — the applicant has donated to the first-selectwoman and has proposed a splash park donation — and said the application should follow the standard review process.
A motion to table the application (to allow EDC review and for the board to adopt or rely on an appropriate policy) was made and seconded. The board voted to table the application; the chair announced the motion carried (6-0).
