At the December 17 board meeting, Trustee Michael Gonzalez asked that the board place a resolution supporting pregnancy leave—described as a bill drafted by the California Teachers Association—on the next meeting agenda.
Gonzalez said he had already sent a copy of the proposed resolution to Superintendent John Thompson and asked staff to include it for the board's consideration at the next meeting. He clarified to the board, "It's not a vote right now," indicating the item would be brought back for discussion and possible action at a later date.
The request was made during the board member requests portion of the agenda and did not result in an immediate vote or commitment beyond placing the item on a future agenda. No further debate or public comment on the resolution was recorded in the meeting transcript.
Board members also discussed attendance at the California School Boards Association federal advocacy meeting in April and expressed support for staff and trustees participating in that multiday event, which includes preparation, strategy and advocacy sessions.
