Yuba County LCSSP coordinator reports wraparound services reached dozens of Marysville students

Luke Henderson, program coordinator for the Learning Communities for School Success Program (LCSSP) at the Yuba County Office of Education, presented the program’s year-two report to the Marysville Joint Unified School District Board.
Henderson said the three-year California Department of Education grant funds a six-person team (four prevention specialists, a therapist and himself) that case-manages students and families to combat chronic absenteeism, improve school connectedness and reduce dropouts and suspensions. He reported that over the last two years the program provided one-on-one therapeutic services to about 64 students, connected 74 families to community resources, made more than 260 referrals, and that roughly 90% of families accepted services. He also cited a 93% success rate for the program’s interventions.
Henderson outlined how the program measures outcomes — tracking attendance changes for students referred for attendance interventions, therapeutic-score changes for students receiving clinical support, and teacher surveys for behavior and school-transition indicators. He said the team aims to expand services, explore community gardens on campuses, and bolster positive-behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) with murals and other campus projects.
The board thanked Henderson for the update; no formal board action was required. Henderson said the program seeks to continue and expand partnerships with district staff and community resources.
