Marysville Joint Unified board elects officers, keeps two January meetings so superintendent can attend

The Marysville Joint Unified School District Board elected Doug Bridal as board president and installed Seth Steeman as vice president at its organizational meeting, and approved other officer appointments and administrative authorizations.

Interim superintendent (the official presiding for the organization process) opened nominations and the board voted to elect Doug Bridal president; the clerk read the result as unanimous. The board later confirmed the nomination and seating of Seth Steeman as vice president and elected a clerk by unanimous vote. The board also appointed a trustee representative to the district’s Special Education Council; that appointment passed unanimously.

Board members discussed meeting frequency and agreed to hold two meetings in January — Jan. 14 and Jan. 28 — so the incoming superintendent could address the board on Jan. 14. Members were told they may bring a policy change later if they wish to move to a single monthly meeting. The board also moved to designate the superintendent as secretary to the board and authorized the superintendent and designees to sign warrants, contracts and other documents; those motions carried.

The board asked for two members to volunteer for agenda review and solicited volunteers to advise on impending budget reductions; members indicated interest and the superintendent said he would follow up by email.

The session concluded with routine approvals of prior meeting minutes and a consent agenda after votes were taken. The board adjourned at the close of the meeting.

What happens next: The board will meet Jan. 14, when the superintendent is expected to address trustees; any formal policy changes to meeting frequency will be placed on a future agenda.
