Board retains patron-challenged Prager U children’s book, reclassifies it in children’s nonfiction

The Fargo Library Board on March 17 reviewed a patron statement of concern about a children’s book titled "Otto's Tales, The American Trinity" published by Prager U and voted to retain the title in the children’s nonfiction collection with a reclassification to a Christianity and political affairs subsection.
Library collection staff told the board the title was purchased by a selector (not donated) and that circulation has been limited — "a handful" of checkouts over the past year or two. The committee investigating the patron’s concern recommended the change in shelving category to better reflect subject matter; the patron who raised the concern was reported to be satisfied with that outcome.
A board member asked about how often the book had circulated; staff said it had been checked out fewer than five times in the last year or two. The board accepted the committee’s recommendation and approved reclassifying the book within the children’s non‑fiction area.
