Inglewood facilities panel reports $232 million left from Measure I, highlights extensive summer projects and Inglewood High rebuild plan

The Inglewood Unified School District’s Facilities Advisory Committee on Aug. 14 reviewed summer construction progress and the status of Measure I bond funds, which the district said generated $248 million to date (including about $10 million in interest). Chair Jordan Miles told the committee the district has spent just over $16 million and has approximately $232 million available, though more than 95% of funds have already been appropriated to projects in design or under construction.
“Measure I was passed in 2020,” Miles said, “we have generated a total of $248,000,000 and we have just over $232,000,000 of funds remaining.” The committee heard that the first issuance was $75 million in 2021 and the remainder ($165 million) was issued in April 2025.
District staff and contractors summarized a busy summer: relocations and renovations at Inglewood High School United, Centinela and New Kelso; playground and hard‑court upgrades; new classroom furniture for 38 classrooms; and athletic and asphalt work assisted by the Los Angeles Clippers. Rafael Guzman of the district’s facilities team said every school in the district had work this summer and invited the community to a New Kelso ribbon cutting.
The committee also reviewed the large reconstruction of Inglewood High School, a six‑building, roughly 150,000‑square‑foot project delivered via a lease‑leaseback with general contractor Balfour Beatty. Miles said demolition is expected by the end of the calendar year and that the district remains on track for project completion by 2027, with students scheduled to occupy the new Inglewood High School in January 2028.
“Balfour Beatty is on site now,” Miles said. “We are still on track to have the project completed by 2027.” Guzman added that the district has begun abatement and continued design submissions to the Division of the State Architect.
District staff highlighted security upgrades completed this summer, including a 30‑camera cloud‑hosted system at Inglewood High School United and a 61‑camera system and access control at Woodworth Monroe. Guzman warned the committee the access‑control hardware was included to qualify for a grant and may not be adopted districtwide.
Next steps include continuing projects already in procurement and design, finalizing the facilities master plan administrative draft with Caldwell Flores Winters (CFW) and presenting the plan to the board in December with funding and sequencing details.
