Mayor Edwenna Perkins said at the Jan. 21 Village of Maywood Board of Trustees meeting that she intended to replace several expired members of the Fire and Police Commission and named four proposed appointees while saying she would reappoint Roney C. Riley. Several trustees asked whether outgoing commissioners and the board had received prior notice of the replacements, and the matter was not finalized.
Trustee K. Wellington, Trustee M. Lightford, Trustee A. Sanchez and Trustee N. Booker sought clarification about prior notification to the outgoing commissioners and to the board. Village Attorney Michael Jurusik told the trustees that, for clarity and action purposes, any unlisted appointment requests should be placed on the agenda for the next regular board meeting rather than decided immediately. As recorded in the minutes, no appointment action was taken at the Jan. 21 meeting.
The minutes list the proposed appointees as Gene Washington, James Brewer, Christopher Brown and Wayne Welch; the record also shows the mayor proposed reappointing Roney C. Riley. The board did not vote on those names at the session.
The meeting opened at 7:05 p.m. and included routine business, public comment and an omnibus approval of resolutions and payments later in the agenda. The attorney's recommendation to use the next meeting for formal action means the proposed replacements will be discussed and recorded again at a future meeting, allowing trustees time to review notifications and provide formal votes.
