Dunlap Middle School named a 2024 National Blue-Ribbon School; superintendent gives updates

Superintendent Dr. Dearman told the Dunlap Community Unit School District #323 Board of Education on Oct. 15 that Dunlap Middle School had been named a 2024 National Blue-Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.
DMS was described in the minutes as one of 18 public schools in Illinois and one of 353 schools nationwide to receive the distinction. Dr. Dearman said DMS was nominated by the Illinois State Board of Education under the categories of Exemplary High Performing School and Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing School, and offered congratulations to staff, students and families.
In the same report, the superintendent noted two FOIA requests had been completed by Mr. McKenzie and provided a construction update on the Dunlap Training Center. The superintendent also reminded the board that there would be no school for students Oct. 24-25 for parent-teacher conferences and no school Nov. 5 for Election Day.
No public comments were recorded during the meeting. The board approved multiple consent and action items later in the session.
