Trustees authorize up to $30,000 for tree grinding along Noble Lake ditches

Harrison and Pottawattamie county trustees unanimously authorized payment not to exceed $30,000 to contractor Fox Dirt for tree grinding along ditch sides at the Noble Lake Drainage District on Feb. 24.
Trustee Brian Rief moved the payment authorization and Keith Jones seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Public commenters, including Don Brothers, said sediment in Noble Lake is causing water to back up and requested cleanup. Contractor estimates presented to the boards broke the work into two areas: grinding trees from Desoto Avenue to the Nobles Lake ditch for a total of $11,000 (excavator $5,000; bobcat $6,000) and grinding from the C & R levee to the Missouri River for a total of $30,000 (excavator $25,000; bobcat $5,000).
Trustees approved the larger authorization (not to exceed $30,000) to cover the C & R levee-to-Missouri River work. The motion was recorded as unanimous. No additional funding sources beyond district funds and previously noted FEMA money were specified at the meeting.
