Trustee Barney reported to the Sleepy Hollow board that the Randall Road Multimodal Improvement Project is in phase 1, with two public meetings held and two more planned this fall. Attendees emphasized ‘‘people connectivity’’ — safer pedestrian crossings, connecting sidewalks, bicycle paths where feasible and improved bus stop access along the corridor from US 20 north to County Line Road.
Barney said about 73 people attended the first public meeting and that the outreach emphasized safe crossings and multimodal access. He said a final design package is expected in 2025 for Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) review; after IDOT approval the plan would go to legislators for approval and funding as part of phase 2.
The trustee framed the project as a major corridor effort that could require multiple funding steps and coordination with county and state agencies. He described a multi-phase process of public input and engineering design that will culminate in IDOT submission next year.
