Summary
Outgoing officials were honored and incoming officials were sworn in Dec. 9; the board adopted the 2022 meeting schedule and approved multiple appointments including Mayor Pro Tempore Neeley and a Planning & Zoning Board appointment, with most motions passing unanimously.
The Town of Cramerton’s Board of Commissioners completed a transition of leadership and set its organizational structure for 2022 during its Dec. 9 meeting.
Judge Donald Rice administered oaths of office to incoming officials—Commissioner Scott Kincaid, Commissioner Kathy Ramsey and Mayor Nelson Wills—after the board read proclamations honoring outgoing members, including outgoing Mayor Will Cauthen and Commissioner Dixie Abernathy.
As part of organizational business, the board approved the 2022 meeting calendar and accepted a donated Norwegian fir (16 feet tall by 8 feet wide) from the Cramerton Historical Society for Town Hall. The board also approved the appointment of Jamie Kanburgolu to fill a Planning and Zoning Board vacancy; Commissioner Helms made that motion, which passed 5-0.
Board members discussed methods for selecting a mayor pro tempore; the board ultimately appointed Commissioner Neeley as Mayor Pro Tempore on a 4-1 vote (Commissioner Atkinson voted no). Other appointments and confirmations approved by unanimous vote included: naming the Town Manager as the representative to the Montcross Chamber of Commerce; appointing Commissioner Atkinson as the Gaston-Cleveland-Lincoln MPO-TAC representative with Commissioner Kincaid as alternate; and appointing the Town Manager and Planning Director as the Town's MPO-TCC representatives and alternates. Mayor Wills was appointed as the board’s representative to the Centralina Council of Governments.
The board also made liaison appointments to advisory boards and the historical society—Commissioner Ramsey to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Mayor Pro Tempore Neeley to the Community Committee, and Commissioner Atkinson as liaison to the Cramerton Historical Society. Several items were postponed for later discussion, including a proposed BOC liaison map adjustment.
The board held routine staff reports from the police, fire, parks and planning departments, and concluded the meeting with commissioner remarks and adjournment at 8:31 p.m.
