Summary
The Clatsop County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved two resolutions proclaiming April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness and Action Month; Laura Parker of the county Domestic Violence Council addressed the board on prevention and survivor support.
The Clatsop County Board of Commissioners on April 8 approved two proclamations recognizing April 2026 for child-abuse prevention and sexual‑assault awareness.
County Manager Dawn Boone asked the board to adopt the Child Abuse Prevention Month resolution and to authorize the chair to sign; the board moved, seconded and approved the proclamation. The resolution stresses community partnership among parents, child‑welfare agencies, health providers, schools, law enforcement and local organizations to prevent abuse and support children and families.
Laura Parker, representing the Domestic Violence Council of Clatsop County, spoke during the Sexual Assault Awareness Month presentation and urged community support for survivors. “Healing is not a one‑size‑fits‑all process. We must embrace survivors with empathy, believe their stories, and ensure that they have access to safe spaces and resources,” Parker told the board.
The board moved and seconded a resolution proclaiming April 2026 as Sexual Assault Awareness and Action Month and authorized the chair to sign; the motion carried.
The proclamations are symbolic actions the board asked community members and local agencies to use as a call to increase prevention, education and survivor supports.
