Aging True seeks $250,000 LBR to expand senior meal deliveries in Clay County

Sam, the CEO for Aging True’s Clay County operations, told commissioners the nonprofit operates four senior centers in Middleburg, Keystone Heights, Green Cove Springs and Orange Park and currently delivers roughly 50–65 meals per center per day, with a countywide waitlist of about 400 seniors seeking additional meals.
Sam said Aging True submitted a legislative budget request (LBR) for $250,000 to fund additional meal delivery; the request has sponsorship from state legislators and local supporters. He described a proposed February pilot at the Green Cove Springs center that would rely on volunteers to deliver five routes of four meals each while a paid volunteer coordinator (10 a.m.–2 p.m., Monday–Friday) would schedule and manage the roster. Sam said about a dozen individuals expressed interest to date and he hopes to recruit 45–50 volunteers so enough pass background checks and cover route needs.
Commissioners and attendees asked about background screening, scheduling and whether the program is income‑based. Sam said the program is not income‑based but addresses mobility and isolation concerns and that churches and other community organizations are part of recruitment plans. No formal vote was required; commissioners thanked Aging True and encouraged coordination and outreach to expand the pilot if funding is secured.
