Emergency communications director requests city support for new Motorola dispatch consoles

The Spokane emergency communications director asked the council to back procurement of new radio consoles for public-safety dispatch.
Stephen Williams told the council the consoles currently in use are outdated and that the proposed contract would supply 24 advanced Motorola consoles plus backup ‘consolates’ to maintain dispatch capability if a console fails. He said the consoles will support both police and fire dispatch and that procurement is tied to replacement of an aging CAD system.
“We’re gonna try to get together a mock up from all of the vendors once we get the CAD system,” Williams said, offering a site visit and hands-on demonstration for council members.
Council members asked about a demonstration and were told staff will arrange a site visit and vendor mock-up when available. The item was presented so the council could consider adding the Motorola contract to the final agenda for action tonight; procedural motions to add the contract were moved and approved.
The council recessed and will consider final action on the Motorola contract at the evening meeting.
