IDOT says 4-way stop at 5th and Warren not warranted, Maywood officials report

Village of Maywood staff on Jan. 7 told the Board of Trustees that the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) does not consider a four-way stop at 5th and Warren warranted.
Public Works Director John West reported to trustees that the Traffic & Safety Commission’s requests have been completed and that the village consulted with Village Engineer William Peterhansen, who confirmed IDOT’s finding. Peterhansen said the determination rests on the number of reported crashes and current vehicle and pedestrian volumes at the intersection, and therefore a four-way stop was not recommended.
Trustees heard the update as informational; no motion or policy change was taken at the meeting. The board’s next steps, as discussed, are continued monitoring of traffic conditions and implementing any lower-impact traffic-calming measures that do not require IDOT approval.
No formal speed-limit changes, street redesigns, or stop-control installations were authorized at this meeting.
