The Colorado Springs City Council adopted a resolution designating March 29, 2026 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day, and recognized local veterans who urged the community to remember the service and sacrifices of Vietnam-era service members.
Councilor Donaldson read the resolution and invited veterans to speak. Andre Fagan Fossey of American Legion Post 5 thanked the council for recognizing Vietnam veterans and called for consistent community appreciation. Russ Miller, president of the Pikes Peak Veterans Council, said Vietnam veterans were too often denied a proper homecoming and that the proclamation helps provide acknowledgment and healing for those who served. “Today, we stand to correct that, to honor their sacrifice, and to ensure they know their service will never be forgotten,” Andre Fagan Fossey said.
The council voted 8–0 to adopt the resolution; council members and attendees posed for a commemorative photo following the vote.
In a separate presentation, representatives from JustServe (a volunteer‑matching website) briefed the council on regional volunteer activity and presented a JustServe City certificate to Colorado Springs. Tammy Farris, Pikes Peak regional specialist for JustServe, said the platform lists local volunteer projects and currently supports more than 5,000 registered users in the Pikes Peak region. She encouraged residents and city departments to list volunteer needs on JustServe and suggested the council consider a follow‑up work session for a deeper briefing.
Council members thanked the presenters and veterans for their remarks and welcomed further engagement on volunteer coordination and veterans’ events. The presentations were ceremonial and informational; no further action was required at the meeting.
