Red Cross officials report 2,531 units collected in Allegany County; commissioners issue proclamation

Jason Keeling, executive director of the American Red Cross of Allegany Highlands, addressed the commissioners as part of Red Cross Month observances and urged residents to use the Red Cross blood donor app to find local drives.
"Last year in this county, 2,531 units of life saving blood were collected at 90–95 drives held throughout the county," Keeling said. He listed several upcoming drives, including events at Allegany College of Maryland and UPMC Western Maryland in Cumberland, and community venues such as churches and local high schools.
Keeling also summarized other Red Cross services in the county in 2025: the Service to the Armed Forces provided 26 case services (mostly emergency communications); disaster services assisted 40 households (85 people); and 634 people completed CPR and first-aid training. The commissioners presented a proclamation recognizing Red Cross Month and invited Keeling and his colleague for a photo.
Keeling asked the public to consider donating blood and to use the organization’s app to schedule appointments and follow where donations are used.
