The New Haven Unified School District Board on Nov. 12 adopted a series of resolutions and routine items, including a board resolution declaring December 2024 a 'Celebrations of Light' month and recognition resolutions honoring Trustees Vanessa Hernandez and Lance Nishihara.
Trustee Vanessa Hernandez read Resolution 021-2425 to the board before the board moved, seconded and adopted the measure by voice vote. The board also adopted resolutions recognizing Hernandez’s and Nishihara’s service to the district; trustees and staff delivered tributes in both cases.
The board approved two calendar revisions: moving the Dec. 10 meeting start time to 5 p.m. and reclassifying the Dec. 17 special meeting as a regular meeting. It also approved a set of routine action items: a service agreement with Wolpert for enrollment and demographic analysis, an agreement listed on the agenda as 'community 12024 25,' a new music appreciation course at James Logan High School starting in fall 2025, and school plans for student achievement for 2024–25. The consent agenda (items 13.1–13.8, 13.10–13.14) was adopted after item 13.9 was pulled for a future meeting.
President Gonzales and multiple trustees offered remarks thanking departing trustees and thanking staff for transparency in public-facing Measure M materials. The board recorded 'motion carries' for the votes; the transcript does not include detailed roll-call tallies for these items in every case.
What happens next: staff will implement the approved calendar updates and finalize agreements and course scheduling through the district’s normal administrative processes.
