Board receives cash and staffing reports and approves purchase orders, ELOP plan and consultant contract

The Barstow Unified board on Sept. 23 received routine financial and staffing reports and approved several consent and personnel items.
Business services reported the district cash balance as of Sept. 15: $63,904,342.06, as recorded with the San Bernardino County superintendent of schools. The staffing report stated the district employs 703 people and listed certificated and classified position counts, vacancies and paraeducator recruiting efforts.
On the consent agenda the board approved a consultant agreement with Devine Interventions (James Campbell) to provide targeted motivational supports for students, and it approved the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) plan and partnership with Champions that staff said carries approximately $5,900,000 this year and currently serves more than 300 students at multiple school sites. The board also approved 63 purchase orders covering $3,521,004.81 and authorized establishment of one classified position, Nutrition Service Operations Manager, to begin recruitment.
All routine approvals were passed by voice vote ('Aye').
