Wayne board recommends assistant superintendent, reports aftercare waitlist cleared and facility updates

Dr. Toback told the board that parent attendance for back-to-school nights has been strong, that the district newsletter will be distributed the next day, and that a previous waiting list for the aftercare program — about 50 students at the prior meeting — had been cleared as of the day before the Sept. 26 meeting.
Dr. Toback also announced a personnel recommendation: "we're proud to recommend Doctor Lauren Kaczmark to the board of ed to replace a valued long time employee or assistant superintendent Donna Reichman who will be retiring," he said. The recommendation was offered as an agenda addition under emergent human resources and noted as subject to approval by the Passaic County executive county superintendent.
The Transportation and Facilities Committee report, given by board member Giordano, covered start-of-school transportation coordination (including use of Sussex Regional coach buses for some trips), upcoming state bus inspections and mandated evacuations, completion or near-completion of several facility projects (electrical upgrade at the day center awaiting PSE&G, asbestos abatement and sewage repairs at Lafayette completed before school opening, roofing work at Preakness nearly finished, a completed restroom project at James Fallon, and punch-list work at the Ryerson security vestibule). Giordano said solar panel agreements are in legal review and that the district expects a redistricting analysis around Oct. 10.
Under agenda business, a motion to move the entire agenda was made and carried on roll-call (members recorded as voting "yes": Paul; Rigoloso; Battershall; Faber; Giordano; Lamandry/Lomandry; Pavlak). The agenda edits included adding the assistant-superintendent appointment and adding an approval of a settlement agreement and general release in civil action number 2:22-00114 SDW-JBC to be considered under a new item X1; the business administrator and superintendent were authorized to take steps to implement any approved settlement terms.
Separately, the board recognized Angela Karas for her service as a school psychologist and welcomed Mary Ferrari as the new vice principal at Wayne Hills and Lauren Casmer as a new assistant superintendent. A motion to adjourn was later made and seconded, and the meeting closed.
