Kasson City council approves resolution to advance $500,000 Minnesota Housing infrastructure grant

Kasson City approved a resolution confirming the city can operate and maintain public infrastructure funded by a $500,000 Greater Minnesota Infrastructure grant from Minnesota Housing.

The resolution, presented by a committee member, summarizes that the city applied for and has been awarded the grant and that several due-diligence items must be satisfied before a contract is issued. The presenter said the simplest method to show the city can operate the completed infrastructure is for the council to adopt a formal resolution stating the funds will be available for operation and maintenance.

"Previously, the city did apply for and receive a grant from Minnesota Housing ... in the amount of $500,000," the committee member said, describing the next steps for sending due-diligence materials to Minnesota Housing so officials can deliver a contract for signing and implementation.

Council members sought no substantive changes and approved the motion to adopt the resolution by voice vote. The motion was moved and seconded and the chair declared the motion approved.

Why it matters: the resolution is a prerequisite for the state agency to finalize a contract and for the city to begin work on the public infrastructure paid for by the grant. The council's adoption of the measure clears the way for state execution of the grant agreement and subsequent project procurement and construction.
