Commission moves to explore preserving snowmobile corridors as development proceeds

The Dayton City Parks Commission on April 7 opened a discussion on whether to preserve snowmobile trails and corridors as nearby development advances.
"There's been some discussion, about whether we wanna keep, snowmobile trails in the city or if we want corridors," Marty (Speaker 2) said, asking the commission to consider inviting Northwest Trails or other stakeholders to present. Commissioners expressed broad support for preserving corridors and for defining them in planning documents so builders can accommodate trails in new developments.
Commissioners noted that grooming and maintenance for many local snowmobile trails are currently provided by Northwest Trails at no cost to the city, and that costs to the city at this stage appear minimal. Questions remain about precise long-term costs, right-of-way and mapping. One commissioner asked to move the topic onto a near-term agenda to get clearly defined corridors and to hear from the Northwest Trails group.
The commission directed staff to contact Northwest Trails, prepare maps of candidate corridors and return with options and any known costs for discussion at a future meeting.
