Planning staff provided a broad update on the City of Battle Creek's housing strategy at the Jan. 28 Planning Commission meeting and described upcoming outreach steps.
Staff member Darcy said planning staff will visit neighborhood planning councils in January and February, integrate the 2025 Lakeview plan into the housing strategy, and hold a public meeting on Feb. 19 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at the Department of Public Works. Darcy described outreach materials already prepared — informational handouts, short videos profiling housing partners and a forthcoming housing-focused podcast series — and said staff will launch a survey to collect broader community feedback and present summary results at a follow-up meeting.
From the commission's internal business, commissioners nominated and confirmed officers by voice vote: China Hughes was nominated and remained chair, Commissioner O'Donnell was nominated and confirmed as vice chair, and Commissioner Hughes will continue as secretary per the voice vote recorded. The meeting concluded after brief comments about the Lakeview sub-area work.
