Peggy Memel, the county public information officer, presented her monthly outreach report to the Hardy County Commission, citing Facebook insights and a community survey tied to National Government Week.
Memel said the insights tool showed 145,915 total "views" across content and called out a post with 34,561 viewers. She reported 865 interactions in the reporting period, broken down as 607 reactions, 52 comments and 206 shares, and said the county's Facebook page had 1,517 followers.
"We have a lot of people that's not following this, but they are watching," Memel said, noting that about 67.8% of the audience for the content were not followers. She said the largest follower age group is 45 to 54, which represents 22.9% of followers, and that the county's audience is overwhelmingly U.S.-based with small audiences in Belgium, Indonesia, Italy, Nigeria and Norway.
Memel said the county had published a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) survey as part of National Government Week and planned to leave it open longer to gather more input; she expected to present the results at the May meeting. Commissioners asked about participation in other platforms such as Instagram and Nextdoor; Memel said she currently had metrics only for Facebook and was learning other platforms.
She also confirmed the countywide emergency exercise scheduled April 23 will include a tabletop session focused on heat, with registration opening about 8:30 a.m. and a 9 a.m. start; no preregistration was required. The commission thanked Memel for the report.
