Boonton council adopts 2025 budget, approves multiple capital and utility ordinances

The Boonton Town Council on a unanimous roll call adopted the 2025 municipal budget and approved a package of ordinances and resolutions to fund capital projects, sewer work and water-system improvements.

The council opened the public hearing on Ordinance O6-25 and the proposed 2025 municipal budget; no members of the public spoke. After brief remarks praising the budget process, the council moved to adopt the budget and a companion resolution (25-117) authorizing self-examination of the budget. The roll-call adoption was completed without opposition.

Council also approved Resolution 25-126, authorizing the issuance of up to $1,504,000 in bond anticipation notes. The CFO noted the borrowing mainly rolls over existing notes and includes limited new borrowing from previously authorized ordinances. “This is mostly old notes, and one additional new borrowing from our 2024 ordinances,” a presenter stated during the discussion.

On capital projects, the council adopted Ordinance O7-25, which appropriates $5,110,600 and authorizes up to $3,559,000 in bonds or notes for various municipal improvements, including a new ladder truck for the fire department. Council members clarified that the $3.5 million represents the maximum authorized amount and that the town is not taking all that debt immediately.

The council also adopted Ordinance O8-25 (sanitary sewer system improvements, $293,000) and Ordinance O9-25 (water supply and distribution improvements, $294,900). Ordinance O10-25, covering additional town improvements funded from various sources, was likewise adopted.

All votes on the budget, bond anticipation notes and ordinances were approved by roll call with no recorded dissent.
