Council approves consent agenda, authorizes contracts and accepts $2,800 state traffic-safety revenue

The Absecon City Council approved its consent agenda on Aug. 1, 2024, by a single motion and roll-call vote. The items carried on the consent agenda included change orders for the 2023 road program, permitting a charitable solicitation by the Absecon VFW Post 9462 auxiliary (removed from the omnibus for separate vote), certification of LOSAP participants for the volunteer fire department, restricted hours for the South Jersey Field of Dreams complex at Pitney Park, acceptance of volunteer firefighters (David Morales Jr. and David Sonny), and authorization to award a contract for resurfacing the Pitney Park tennis courts.
The council also approved the insertion of a special item of revenue into the 2024 municipal budget allowing the receipt of $2,800 from the State of New Jersey for highway traffic safety (the clerk had earlier read $3,920 but council corrected the amount to $2,800). The bill list, totaling $3,140,078.91, was approved by roll call as part of routine business.
Council removed item 1-16 (charitable solicitation by the VFW auxiliary) from the consent agenda after Councilman DeRoz recused himself, noting his VFW affiliation. That item was moved and approved separately by roll call. The clerk recorded the votes for each moved item.
