Trails committee forms micromobility subcommittee; members discuss shade‑tree plantings and food‑bank hikes

At the Nov. 12 meeting the Trails Advisory Committee agreed to form a small subcommittee to shepherd the micromobility study and potential tree‑planting along the proposed Naaman Williams corridor. Mary Lauko (speaker 8) said the Shade Tree Commission is willing to serve as a liaison and to help select and plant trees along streets adjacent to proposed trail corridors; she volunteered to participate on the subcommittee.
Prakash/Robert (speaker 4) volunteered to serve on the three‑member subcommittee and the committee said it will first offer the role to Chris (speaker 6) who helped on the micromobility study. Tara said the subcommittee should produce a cost estimate, select tree species and coordinate with Parks and Recreation staff for implementation.
Members also discussed trail‑based fundraisers to support the Franklin Food Bank. Vanessa (speaker 7) proposed a Black Friday hike; Praveesh Lal (speaker 5) advised caution about holiday timing and suggested spring fundraising could draw better turnout, and noted recent council contributions to the food bank and a $5,000 donation from a house of worship and a $10,000 council appropriation. Ideas to support the food bank included adopting the food bank for every walk, QR code donations on event flyers, donation boxes at trailheads and partnering with scout troops to boost winter participation.
The committee asked staff to help draft flyers and suggested the storybook and nature‑walk programming could be paired with fundraising messages when appropriate.
