The New Providence council approved Resolution 2025-92 on March 25 to authorize the borough's participation in countywide mental health-awareness activities for 2025.
A council member leading the town's mental-health advocacy committee described a multi-town campaign that will place banners on Springfield Avenue, distribute resident kits (signs and a green porch light bulb) to households, and hold a kickoff event at Centennial Park on April 29. The presenter said participating municipalities include New Providence, Berkeley Heights and Summit, with additional involvement from Westfield, Chatham, Mountainside, Scotch Plains, Fanwood, Long Hill Township and Madison.
Funding for banners and some materials was described as coming from private foundations and local organizations: the Kimberly Ann Wilson Foundation was named as underwriting the banner purchase, the Rotary Club and individual volunteers were cited as providing additional materials and support, and the Mental Health Association of New Jersey was listed as sponsoring green ribbons and programming.
The program will include a school poster contest with awards presented by participating councils and outreach activities such as "paint the town green" storefront displays and social-media promotion to reduce stigma. The committee also plans to request permission to install vertical banners at Centennial Park and Veterans Park and to post information on the borough's electronic bulletin board.
The resolution formalizes borough participation; details such as exact banner locations and logistics will be coordinated with the county and partner towns as the event approaches.
