Marshall County Public Health reports on assessment, emergency group and virus monitoring

Fran Tougas, Marshall County Public Health Director, provided a bi-monthly public health update to the board on April 7 that covered a range of ongoing programs and preparedness activities.
Tougas outlined that the Community Health Assessment is under review (a statutory five-year cycle review) and noted several upcoming observances and activities: National Public Health Week (April 6–12), National Home Visiting Week (April 20–24), and National Infant Immunization Week (April 20–26). She reported on infrastructure and funding matters, MCTT postvention planning to assist the community after untimely deaths, regional exercises planned for the spring, monitoring of respiratory viruses including influenza, COVID-19 and RSV, and a measles update. Tougas also said a County Emergency Preparedness Group has been formed to improve communication and coordination during emergencies.
The board received the update; no formal action or vote on public-health policy was recorded in the minutes.
Next steps: the health department will continue the Community Health Assessment process and conduct the planned regional exercises and preparedness activities.
