The Traffic Safety and Mobility Commission reviewed the FY24–25 work plan on July 1 and asked staff to emphasize parking-related efforts in the Village/Barrio and downtown areas.
Nathan Schmidt, the transportation planning and mobility manager, told commissioners that the municipal code requires commissions to adopt an annual work plan and outlined two primary goals for the year: (1) provide input on multimodal transportation projects and staff studies and (2) focus on mobility and safety around schools. Schmidt said the plan lists capital projects, traffic calming and monitoring reports, and safe-routes-to-school work for specific elementary and high-school sites.
Commissioners discussed adding explicit parking work in the Village/Barrio and near the beach; the chair and commissioners said downtown parking will be a principal focus, though some aspects would be citywide. The commission also nominated representatives to present materials to City Council on July 30 and approved the chair as the primary presenter with Vice Chair Fowler as alternate.
Next steps: staff will revise the work plan to reflect commission comments and return for final review next month before it is submitted to City Council.
