Emery County’s Trails Committee voted March 3 to approve drafting a letter to the Bureau of Land Management asking that a section of the Mt. Dew Trail be opened, after members discussed clarifications needed about the route and the letter’s wording. The committee convened at 8 a.m. with Chair Terri Bennett presiding.
The committee first approved the February 2026 minutes on a motion by Rod Player, seconded by Don Bennett. Later, members considered a proposed letter to the BLM regarding the Mt. Dew Trail. Les Wilberg moved to approve writing the letter; Don Bennett seconded, and the motion passed. During discussion members asked staff to clarify the route and the exact locations referenced in the text before the letter is sent.
Chair Bennett and committee members emphasized that the letter is intended as a formal request for the BLM to consider opening a defined segment of trail; committee discussion focused on precise route language and map references so the agency will have a clear proposal to evaluate. The committee did not set a public deadline for BLM response during the meeting.
The motion to draft the letter is a formal committee direction; staff or a designated subcommittee will finalize wording and coordinate submission to the BLM. The Trails Committee adjourned and will next meet April 7, 2026.
