Laramie County approves $2.18 million in opioid-settlement subrecipient awards

The Laramie County Board of Commissioners voted May 20 to approve subrecipient awards totaling $2,178,888.81 from opioid settlement funds to support services in the county.
Sandra Bay of Laramie County Grants told commissioners the county formed an opioid settlement committee in August 2024 to evaluate needs and applications. The committee advertised twice in the Wyoming Tribune Eagle, posted application materials on the county website and reviewed 12 applications before making funding recommendations.
Bay read the committee’s recommendations into the record: Cheyenne Fire and Rescue — $499,954.22; Cheyenne Regional Medical Center — $499,869.33; HealthWorks — $500,000; Laramie County Sheriff’s Office — $275,000; Recover Wyoming — $89,085.26; and Bridger, Wyoming — $314,980. Several applicants received no funding recommendations. The total recommended award amount was $2,178,888.81, leaving a balance of $403,144.73 for future allocation. Bay said the awards will be three-year subrecipient agreements ending 05/31/2028 and that the county’s grants office and attorney will complete subrecipient agreements with reporting requirements; agreements will return to the commissioners in June 2025.
A commissioner moved to approve the recommendations and praised the committee’s work; the board approved the awards by roll call (Commissioners Heath, Hollingshead, Thompson, Swanitzer and the chair voted Aye).
