Laramie County commissioners unanimously approve 2025 mill levies after assessor’s briefing

Laramie County commissioners voted unanimously to approve the county’s 2025 mill levies following a brief public hearing and a presentation by Laramie County Assessor Todd Ernst.

Ernst told the commission that most levies changed only slightly this year. He said LCCC dropped its bond and interest payments, producing a very small reduction in its levy — he referred first to "0.17 mils" and then clarified "it's 0.0017 mils." Ernst said Fire District 1’s levy decreased by 1.62 mills because the district’s bond and interest obligations concluded this year. By contrast, the Laramie County Fire Authority’s levy increased by 1.25 mills, which Ernst attributed to bond interest and to a loss in taxable value tied to the North Range Business Park.

The presiding official asked whether the mills levied in the county were authorized by voters or the state; Ernst replied, "That is correct," confirming that the mills in Laramie County are either voter-approved or approved by the Wyoming Legislature and that the county does not set mills without such approval.

No members of the public came forward to speak during the hearing. After closing the public comment period, a commissioner moved to approve the levies as presented; the motion was seconded and carried on a roll-call vote recorded as five ayes. The clerk named Commissioners Heath, Hollinshead, Thompson, Zwonitzer and Chairman Wong as voting in favor.

The commission’s discussion following the motion was brief. The presiding official thanked Ernst and his staff for coordinating with special districts and taxing authorities to prepare the levy figures.
