Commissioners approve direct contract for detention-center communications and services

The Laramie County Board of Commissioners on July 15 approved a change to the county's detention-center services contract that will let the county contract directly with a company that previously operated as a subcontractor.
County Attorney Mark Voss told the board the move removes an intermediary, generating savings for the county and a small increase in the percentage the county receives from profits on inmate communications and tablet services. "We're just, basically contracting directly with them rather than with an overlord," Voss said.
No change in who provides the service is expected, Voss said; the vendor has "been performing good services for us for a period of time." Commissioners moved and seconded to approve; the roll-call vote recorded five ayes and the motion carried.
The board did not specify a contract number or projected dollar savings during the meeting. Staff indicated this is an administrative contract change; the county plans a formal competitive process for similar services in the future when appropriate.
The board proceeded to the next agenda item after the vote.
