Antioch Education Association presents initial 2024–25 proposal; board accepts sunshine proposal

Kendra Borja, the Antioch Education Association bargaining chair, presented the association's initial 2024–25 sunshine proposal during the Aug. 21 meeting. Borja said the association's package will propose improvements related to community schools legislation, the 2627 calendar, and specific contract articles including hours of employment, the salary schedule and payment for extra duties, and class size (Article 15).
Trustee Hack moved and Vice President Rocha seconded a motion to accept the initial proposal; the motion passed by voice vote. Board discussion was limited at the time of acceptance; the action records the board's receipt and acceptance of the association's initial bargaining package so negotiations can proceed.
Borja described Article 15 as the association's concern about class-size provisions; trustees asked clarifying questions but did not vote on any substantive contract changes on Aug. 21. The initial proposal acceptance is a procedural step to begin negotiations under the collective-bargaining process.
