Planning commission recommends approval of five Union Wireless tower permits

The Laramie County Planning Commission on March 26 recommended approval of Class B conditional use permits and wireless‑tower permits for five Union Wireless sites after staff found the applications meet LCLUR standards and agency concerns could be mitigated.
Associate planner Kate Kundell summarized the applications from SAC Wireless LLC on behalf of Union Wireless: upgrades or relocations at Hillsdale North, 7 Mile Butte, Cheyenne Sarah Ranch, Egbert and Benedek East, with tower heights ranging from 80 to 150 feet and fenced lease areas. Staff said setbacks meet the height requirement, no marking or lighting is required, and FAA/FCC approvals will be required during the federal review process. "First responders and emergency service providers will benefit from having increased network coverage," the staff report said.
Chris Schlacks, representing SAC Wireless, said the company can be reached by phone for follow‑up questions and that the sites address areas lacking consistent wireless service. Staff noted Wyoming Game and Fish provided mitigation suggestions for wildlife and that agency comments have been addressed in the staff report.
No public comments were recorded on the item. A commissioner moved to approve the Class B conditional use permits and adopt staff findings; the motion passed on roll call with the commission recorded in the affirmative.
