Proposal to rename Edgemont Bridge tabled after public support; resident raises costly flood-permit concern

The Cleburne County Quorum Court considered a proposal to rename the Edgemont Bridge as the Mark Clark Memorial Bridge during its June 12 meeting, but the court tabled the resolution after discussion.
JP Beavers introduced the renaming resolution and JP Malone seconded. Two residents, Blake Galeazzi and Steve Carpenter, spoke in favor of renaming the bridge. After discussion, JP Martin moved to table the resolution; the motion carried by voice vote and the matter was set aside without a formal adoption vote.
Separately, resident Neil Cate was added to the agenda to raise a flood-permit issue related to a new build. Cate told the court that obtaining a No Rise Certificate signed by an engineer would be ‘‘great expense’’ for his project. The court discussed the comment and noted the possibility of revising the county flood ordinance; no formal direction or change to the ordinance was adopted at the meeting.
The tabled bridge renaming can be brought back at a future session if a justice of the peace moves to remove it from the table. The court adjourned at 8:18 p.m.
