Sevier County Board of Equalization approves most 2026 exemption renewals, defers Mission at Richfield LLC request
Summary
At a Board of Equalization session during the March 9 commission meeting, commissioners approved renewal requests for Religious, Educational and Charitable exemptions (including a new Calvary Chapel building and a vehicle for the Corporation of the Presiding Bishop, LDS) but asked Mission at Richfield LLC for additional information because the applicant did not demonstrate a clear community gift.

The Sevier County Board of Equalization convened at 2:11 p.m. on March 9 to review renewal applications for Religious, Educational and Charitable property tax exemptions for 2026.
Deputy Clerk/Auditor Barbara Crowther presented the renewal list and noted two new items: an additional building for Calvary Chapel Sevier Valley and a vehicle listed for the Corporation of the Presiding Bishop (LDS). County Attorney Casey Jewkes raised concern about a new exemption request from Mission at Richfield LLC, reporting that the application did not demonstrate a “real gift to the community” based on materials provided.
After discussion, the board moved to approve the list of renewal applicants including the two new items, but to defer action on the Mission at Richfield LLC request pending additional information. Commissioners asked staff to request the supplemental documentation and scheduled a meeting with Mission at Richfield LLC as soon as possible to reconsider the request.
The board’s action was recorded during a regularly scheduled commission meeting; the BOE recessed back to the regular meeting at 2:23 p.m.
